Jess's new Bike
My girlfriend Jess bought a new bike this week, A Specialized Hardrock Sport. It is an awesome entry level bike and it was a good price too. Can't wait till we can head out for some rides together.

After riding at wentworth last weekend, I realized the fork on my full suspension bike was just not cutting the mustard for high speed riding. I went on a search for a more capable fork, with a bit more travel, and was pleased to find one used, and pretty cheap too. A Manitou X-Vert Carbon DH race fork. Not sure what year, and it looks a little beat up, but I went for a quick ride yesterday after work, and it performs great.

I uploaded a huge number of mountain biking pics tonight you can find them here
The trail is called "Proudest Monkey", lots of man made stunts, kind of short, but lots of fun.
I was out for a final trail ride with my friend Lindsey, she is moving to Kamloops this week. I have spent a ton of time with her in the last year, riding, hangin' out, watching movies, and just plain having fun. I am going to miss her a lot, but I can't do anything but wish her the best of luck on her adventures in western Canada.
What do you get when you combine unemployment, a pile of random bike parts, lots of winter weather, and boredom?
You get project winterbike. Built mostly from parts I had laying around, it is a bike to take out in the snow and ice and play, without really worrying about it.
Fully rigid, with largeish studded tires, 8 speed rear with a chainguide up front. Front Hayes 6" hydro disk brake and rear V-Brake.

Well, I bought a new rear disk for my full suspension bike yesterday, new to me that is. It is a Hayes Mag 8", and I can already tell the difference compared to the HFX-9 that I took off. I put the caliper on, squeezed the lever, tightened the bolts and boom, adjusted and ready to go, no fiddling so the disk doesn't drag like the HFX caliper. The lever mount isn't quite as stiff as the purple hayes lever that I have for the front brake, but the lever itself is lots smoother and doesn't flop around at all. I have been cursing the HFX-9's for a while, they never stay adjusted properly, and have inconsistent performance, the Hayes MAGs are definitely the way to go, even if they do cost quite a bit more.
