Something a little different
Been playing with some new gallery software.
Can be a bit of a PITA but it is kind of cool.

SInce I just updated the blog software, I have it set up so that you need a "TypeKey" account to leave comments. This is to try and prevent comment spam. We'll see how it goes. You can register for a free TypeKey account here.
I just upgraded to the latest version of Movable Type blog software. There were a few minor hitches, but it was relatively painless.
The look of my blog has changed also... This is the default for the new software, but I kind of like it, so it will stay like this for at least a while.
So, another update on how well MT-blacklist is working for me. I checked my logs, and found 60 comment denials in the last month. About 10 comments got through that I needed to add to the list. This is good, I would go nuts if I had to manually delete 60 some comments from my blog every month.
I am thinking about turning comments off altogether, but I do occasionally get comments from real people, and I like it when that happens.
I just uploaded a few pictures from the last couple of weeks, nothing spectacular, just some landscape type shots. I haven't been all thet inspired to take pictures lately, but with spring well on its way, maybe I will start shooting more.
So, it has been a month since I installed MT-Blacklist to block comment spam. I just checked my logs, and 17 spam comments have been denied outright, with no intervention from me, and 7 more removed and URLs added to the list manually by me. The system seems to work pretty good, I am quite satisfied.
I have been getting a bit of comment spam om my blog here, so I decided to try to do something about it. I downloaded and installed MT Blacklist Easy to install, easy to configure, hopefully it will work, I guess we will have to wait and see.
I have a couple of new galleries of pictures posted up on the site now, check them out here. The new stuff is under the "New Style Galleries" heading.
I have switched to a new gallery format, I am using Picasa to organize my pictures now, and it has a decent gallery generator. It takes way less time than building the pages myself, but it is a bit less personal. I may go back through and start renaming all the pictures to personalize it a bit more, but I am just having way too much fun right now taking pictures with the new camera.
I just realized that I don't have a link to my old website anywhere on this new creation. Excuse the annoying geocities popup adds, at the time there were few good options for free webhosting.
I just picked up a film from the camera shop, word of wisdom, do not take photos while you are drunk, at least not with a manual SLR. Only about 3 of the ones taken while drinking turned out halfway decent. They are added to the bottom of this gallery from Carl & Rebecca's wedding. The pics of the aurora borealis that we had here in Nova Scotia turned out really well, see those ones Here
I just spent the afternoon scanning pictures, and uploaded them to the galleries, Not much else to do but shovel on a crappy snowy windy day. At least I got an early call telling me not to bother even trying to go to work.
Check out my galleries here.
Well after some not so flattering feedback and a bunch of reading on the web, I decided that black is not the best colour for a background. I could just not handle going with white, so I picked a colour partway in between. Html colour#cccccc, grey#1.
Black was my origional colour of choice, but after reading that is mostly associated with porn sites and sites created by teens, I did not want people to get the wrong impression. For the record this is not a porn site and I am not a teen, so grey it is.
