SMITH, Charles Inglis SMITH, Charles Inglis - 89, Windsor,
passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 2, 2005, in QEII Health
Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Mount Denson, Hants Co., he was a son of
the late John and Mary (Davidson) Smith. Charles graduated from King's
Collegiate School, Windsor, in 1933, and while there was varsity XV Rugby
captain, a varsity cross-country runner, and Special K shooting champion.
He returned to K.C.S. as a faculty member where he taught English and
history for three years. He attended Dalhousie University with his sights
on a B.Sc. in Medicine, but had to withdraw to assume control of the
family farming business (Sheyfield Farm in Falmouth) due to the untimely
death of his father. He developed the farm into a substantial fruit
growing business, exporting world wide. As a long-standing bandsman he
received recognition from the Town of Windsor for his 25 years of
community service with the Centennial Dixieland Jazz Band. Although he
played in many bands before, he was a founding member of the Centennial
Dixieland Band in 1978 and continued playing up until 2004. He was a life
member of Welsford Masonic Lodge No. 26, where he earned his 60 year
jewel. Charles' musical interests also served him well during his time as
organist for both St. Georges Anglican and Christ Church Anglican. Charles
is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carolina; daughter, Judith (Lloyd)
Zinck, Falmouth; sons, John (Marilynn), Alberta; Jeffrey (Beverley),
Windsor; grandchildren, Greg, Derek, Heather, Trevor, Annalise, Nadja, and
Treasure; 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, John.
Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. today in Lohnes~Beazley Family
Funeral Home, 419 Albert St., Windsor. A memorial service will be held at
2 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, in Christ Church Anglican, Windsor, Rev.
David Curry officiating. Interment of ashes in St. Georges Cemetery, Upper
Falmouth. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may
be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or
Kings-Edgehill School - Music Department, 33 Kings-Edgehill Lane, Windsor,
